Our mission is to represent and protect the rights of the recording artists and record companies that we represent and ensure that they are equitably compensated for the broadcast, communiation and public performance of their music in New Zealand.
We do this by setting (on their behalf) fair and reasonable tariffs for the use of their property in public or other non-domestic situations. Where feasible, we set such tariffs after due and meaningful consultation with our music users directly or with relevant industry bodies or trade associations where more practicable.
We then actively endeavour to make contact with, establish music use and then grant blanket licences to all New Zealand broadcasters, music users and suppliers in New Zealand.
The income we generate is allocated and distributed to our members less actual costs. At least 80% (and often more) of collected income is available to be distributed to our members.
